Domotor Tower

The Domotor tower is the oldest building in Szeged, Hungary. The basis become most likely laid throughout the 11th century, whilst the decrease component was constructed from the twelfth century, and the upper element from the thirteenth century. The tower changed into once part of the former Szent Domotor templom, however today it stands in Dom Square, in the front of the plenty larger Votive Church of Szeged. The higher component became rebuilt from the authentic stones in 1926. The structure of the tower is similar to another observed in Southern France, or inside the territory of the former Byzantine Empire.

On the higher component, there are 48 pointed windows in three ranges. On the decrease component, a gate changed into reduce and grew to become to a baptismal chapel in 1931. Above the gate there's a reproduction of the oldest sculpture in Szeged, the "K?bárány", an agnus dei representation from the early 12th century. The reproduction changed the authentic sculpture in 1991. Inside the tower, there's a fresco through Vilmos Aba-Novak of the baptism of Hungarians inside the 11th century. Due to the mildew growing at the rear wall, the baptismal chapel is now not in use.
