It houses the in large part preserved furnishings of the closing living quarters of the Low German poet Fritz Reuter in addition to the Richard Wagner series of the Austrian Nicolas Oesterlein. Fritz Reuter 1810-1874, who relocated his house from Neubrandenburg in Mecklenburg to Eisenach in 1863 and at that point become one of the first-rate-paid literati of his time, constructed the neo-renaissance villa between 1866 and 1868 and lived there until his demise.

The plans for the villa were created by using the then very famous architect Ludwig Bohnstedt. The mansion lawn turned into Reuter in line with the plans of his buddy and Corps-brother from college, the royal Prussian court garden director Ferdinand Juhlke, form. On Reuters request Juhlke created in 1867 a lawn plan with a list of fruit and greens to be planted.
