Island Zoo Altenburg

The Island Zoo Altenburg is Germany's solitary zoo, which is situated on an island. The island is situated amidst the huge lake on the southern edge of Altenburg's old town. The zoo is open by means of a lasting scaffold. Toward the start of 2008, the zoo was casted a ballot "Thuringian most delightful zoo" by the gathering of people of the MDR - through and through as the 4^th most wonderful zoo in Central Germany after Gorlitz, Leipzig and Weibenfels. The island, on which today the zoo is, was made 1720/1721 falsely in the enormous lake.

After a time of decay after Frederick's passing, the island was incredibly developed and redesigned from 1761 onwards. New trees and bushes were planted and a structure revamped and a swan house assembled. In the meantime, the whole lake territory was updated. The three ships, which had been worked after the spoiled since decaying wooden extension since 1783, were supplanted in 1925 by the present strong block connect. The slurry from 1947/1948 extended the island once more. A rent as a poultry ranch site fizzled and even use as a school garden from 1951 was not actualized. In 1952, waterfowl were at long last housed on the island.
