About Monheim
Monheim is a metropolis inside the Donau-Ries district, in Bavaria, Germany. It is located 15 km northeast of Donauworth, and 27 km east of Nördlingen. It lies in the Regierungsbezirk Schwaben. The origins of Monheim date returned into the seventh century, while a village became fashioned at the crossing of the Gailach, a small river jogging into the Altmuhl. From 870, a Benedictian convent existed inside the small town.
In 893, the abbess of the convent, Mother Liubila, transferred it to the Bishop of Eichstatt, Erchanbald, and it was then that Monheim was first noted in an respectable document. It became an crucial place of pilgrimage due to the relics of Saint Walpurga, a former abbess of the convent in Eichstatt. Unlike clearly all of Schwaben, which belongs to the Diocese of Augsburg, Monheim is still part of the Diocese of Eichstatt today. The village of Monheim came into ownership of the Graf von Oettingen, now the House of Oettingen-Wallerstein, across the year 1325.
