About Kleve
Kleve is a town in the Lower Rhine region of northwestern Germany close to the Dutch outskirt and the waterway Rhine. From the 11th century onwards, Cleves was capital of an area and later a duchy. Today, Cleves is the capital of the district of Cleves in the German territory of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city is home to one of the grounds of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. The region of Kleve includes, beside the innercity, of 14 towns and populated spots. The name Kleff presumably gets from Middle Dutch clef, clif 'precipice, feign', alluding to the projection on which the Schwanenburg chateau was built.
Since the city's crest shows three clovers, the city's name is in some cases connected by society historical underpinnings to the clover, yet the comparing Dutch word is klever. Remarkably, Kleve was spelled with a C since its commencement until spelling changes presented during the 1930s necessitated that the name be spelled with a K. In 2008, the CDU d its expectation to restore the name to its unique spelling. As the remainder of the Lower Rhine district, Kleve is an overwhelmingly Roman Catholic city.
