About Verdun
Verdun is a small metropolis within the Meuse department in Grand Est in northeastern France. It is an arrondissement of the department. Verdun is the most important city in Meuse, although the capital of the department is Bar-le-Duc that is slightly smaller than Verdun. It is widely known for giving its name to a primary warfare of the First World War. Verdun Verodunum, a latinisation of an area call which means sturdy fortress become founded via the Gauls. It has been the seat of the bishop of Verdun because the 4th century, with interruptions.
In 486, following the decisive Frankish victory at the Battle of Soissons, the town refused to yield to the Franks and become accordingly besieged by means of King Clovis I.
