About Alpes de Haute Provence
Alpes de Haute Provence is a branch in Southeastern France, placed in the Provence Alpes Cote d Azur region. Formerly a part of the province of Provence, it had a populace of 161,916 in 2013. Its main cities are Digne les Bains prefecture, Manosque, Sisteron, Barcelonese, Castellan and Forcalquier. Inhabitants of Alpes de Haute Provence are referred to as the Bas Alpins or Bas Alpines referring to the department of Basses Alpes which become the previous name of the branch until 1970. Nord de Provence became one of the 83 authentic departments created throughout the French Revolution on four March 1790 beneath the Act of 22 December 1789.
It was renamed Haute Provence then Basses Alpes. On 12 August 1793, the department of Vaucluse changed into comprised of elements of the departments of Bouches du Rhone, Drome, and Basses Alpes. Basses Alpes lost the canton of Sault to Vaucluse at this point. 17 years later, in 1810, the canton of Barcillonnette became transferred over to Hautes Alpes. The branch of Basses Alpes becomes occupied by means of fascist Italy from November 1942 to September 1943.
