About Musee Picasso
The Musee Picasso, formerly the Chateau Grimaldi at Antibes is built upon the foundations of the ancient Greek metropolis of Antipolis. Antibes is a lodge town inside the Alpes Maritimes department in southeastern France, on the Mediterranean Sea. In 1608 it has become a stronghold of the Grimaldi circle of relatives and has borne their call ever seeing that. In 1702 it became the metropolis hall of Antibes. From 1925 the chateau became known as the Grimaldi Museum. In 1946 it turned into the home for 6 months of the artist Pablo Picasso. Today the museum is referred to as the Picasso Museum, the first museum within the world to be committed to the artist.
Picasso himself donated works to the museum, altogether 23 paintings and 44 drawings most substantially his artwork The Goat and La Joie de Vivre. In 1990 Jacqueline Picasso bequeathed many works via Picasso to the museum. These covered 4 art work, 10 drawings, 2 ceramics and 6 etchings. These are displayed at the Chateau further to the 3 works on paper, 60 etchings and 6 carpets by using Pablo Picasso which the museum accumulated among 1952 and 2001. Today the collection totals 245 works through Picasso.
