Jardin des Plantes

The Jardin des Plantes spread in an area of 7 Square Kms is a public park and botanical garden located on Allée Jules-Guesde, Toulouse, France.

This 7-hectare public garden, former botanical garden, is located near the Canal du Midi and Busca and Demoiselles neighborhoods in Toulouse. The first garden of plants was created in 1730 by the Society of Sciences, on the outskirts of Saint-Sernin. The quality of the soil is not satisfactory, the collection is moved. It is in 1794, by the will of Philippe Picot de Lapeyrouse, naturalist, that the current garden is born on the site of the convent of the Carmes déchaussés. Rich in a collection of 1300 species, it allowed medical students to have medicinal plants. Today, it nicely complements the Museum's collections and offers beautiful family walks.
