Every year, in May, the festival Etonnants Voyageurs brings together some 250 authors from 5 continents and nearly 60,000 site visitors to Saint Malo for three days of meetings, debates, literary cafes, movie screenings and exhibits around the way of dwelling and telling the world wherein we stay.
Since its advent in 1990, Etonnants Voyageurs has emerged as certainly one of the largest literary gala's in France. Writers from all over the world, Jim Harrison, Hugo Pratt, Russell Banks, James Welch, J.M.G. The Clezio or Alvaro Mutis have already come to meet their public in Saint-Malo. Several prizes are presented at the competition together with the Joseph Kessel Prize, created in 1991 to reward works written in French inside the vein of the eponymous author, and the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire, which rewards novels.
