El Penicillo

Beaten by a 41m tall aluminum mosaic statue of La Virgen de Quito, with a crown of stars, heavenly wings and a fastened mythical beast, the slope toward the south of Old Town called El Panecillo is a noteworthy Quito point of interest.

From the summit, there are glorious perspectives of the sprawling city and the encompassing volcanoes.

Climb ventures up to the base of the Virgin statue for a much loftier viewpoint. The best time for spring of gushing lava sees is early morning, before the mists come in.

It's conceivable to walk by means of the stairs toward the finish of Calle García Moreno, however, the area puppies can be an issue and muggings have happened. A taxi from the Old Town is a superior approach.
