There are a number of good midway dhabas here, and we can also recommend Haveli if you are looking for a vegetarian meal. Once in Amritsar, check-in at the hotel room and freshen up. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to spend as you wish. Amritsar is the spiritual capital of Punjab and its second largest city. The most famous sights of this sacred and historical city include the Golden Temple Harmandir Sahib, Jallianwala Bagh, Durgiana Temple, Partition Museum, Wagah border and Gobindgarh Fort. The city is also famous for its food and typical shopping. If you wish to watch the Flag Ceremony at the Wagah Border, then leave in the afternoon. Wagah border is about 30km away, a drive of just under an hour from town. The flag ceremony happens daily and is quite a tourist attraction. A visit to Amritsar is incomplete without trying out a typical Dhaba meal that Amritsar is so famous for. You could pick from Bharawan Da Dhaba, Kesar Dhaba, Crystal Restaurant and many more. If you are interested in witnessing the Palki Ceremony, we can recommend visiting the Golden Temple before dawn to watch this early morning ritual. In this ceremony, the holy book the Guru Granth Sahib is carried out from the night chamber back into its place in the sanctum for the day. It is a moment of great spiritual significance and attracts devotees in great numbers. You can spend some peaceful moments at the Gurudwara afterwards. Later in time check out of your hotel and begin your drive towards Palampur. You could either take the highway via Pathankot which will typically be the shortest route, or take the slightly longer route that goes through Hoshiarpur. A little beyond Pathankot the plains will give way to low hills, and you will enjoy the gradual change in the landscape. Once you arrive in Palampur, check-in at the hotel room and freshen up. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to spend as you wish. The hill town of Palampur is known for its forested surroundings and tea gardens. This day of your holiday would be at leisure, so you could explore the surroundings at your own pace. If you wish to explore a neighboring town, then you could possibly drive to either McLeodganj approx. 01 hour drive away one-way or Bir-Billing approx. 01 hour drive away one-way. At McLeodganj the sights worth visiting include the Dalai Lama temple, Church of St. John in the Wilderness, Dal Lake, Bhagsu Nag Waterfall, Norbulingka Institute etc. Bir-Billing on the other hand is known basically for scenic views and adventure activities. Since today is going to be the last day of your trip, check-out from the hotel in Palampur and embark on a beautiful ride in your comfortable car to Chandigarh. On your way to Chandigarh, we would recommend stopping at a couple of points depending on your interest. Kangra Fort, lying approx. 20 km outside Dharamshala, is the largest fort in the Himalayas and one of the oldest forts in Northern India. It was captured by the British army in the 19th century. The stone ruins are open to visitors till 5pm. The Jwalaji Temple near Ranital, also located in Kangra district, is one of the 51 Shakti Peeth temples in India and considered to be very powerful. It is dedicated to Goddess Jwalamukhi and its main attraction is the Aarti that is performed five times in a day. The Chintpurni Temple near Bharwain in Una district is another of the 51 Shakti Peeth temples. It is dedicated to Goddess Chinnamastika Devi. This is also one of the places where genealogy records of Hindus are kept. A good place to stop for a meal and comfort break during the drive would be Haveli at Ludhiana.
