About Taminango Museum

The Taminango Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions of Narino , usually called "Casona Taminango", is a Colombian museum located in the city of San Juan de Pasto , and operates in a building dating from the 17th century , elevated to the status of a national monument. In 1971, the historical center is committed to showing tests of the normal art procedures of the locale and furthermore incorporates the printing of Greek sorts that Dr. Leopoldo Lopez Alez used to distribute bilingual renditions of the Greek works of art, and in addition tests of his work. The historical center was made by the "Fundación Museo Taminango Monasco Dachis" for activity and drive and initiative of the specialist Pablo Morillo Cajiao who for this work in 2010 got the national prize Life and Work of the Ministry of Culture of Colombia.

The establishment reestablished an old building and there the exhibition hall was initiated on July 14, 1989 with the target, among others, of protecting specialties whose procedures are in risk of vanishing, which incorporates setting up a professional flowerbed on its contiguous grounds, to contemplate and develop the plants expected to make the items. Amid the initial two years the exhibition hall worked under the tutelage of the Museum of Arts and Folk Traditions of Colombia and afterward it was specifically directed by the Museum Foundation Taminango Monasco Dachis, named to pay tribute to the Russian national with whose gift the building was procured in which the establishment works.
