About Guanyin of Nanshan

The Guanyin of Nanshan is a 108-metre 354 feet statue of the bodhisattva Guanyin, sited at the south coast of China's island province Hainan close to the Nanshan Temple of Sanya. The statue has three aspects: one facet faces inland and the other two face the South China Sea, to symbolize blessing and safety by way of Guanyin of China and the entire global. One aspect depicts Guanyin cradling a sutra inside the left hand and gesturing the Vitarka Mudra with the proper; the second one together with her hands crossed, preserving a string of prayer beads; and the 0.33 preserving a lotus.
As of August 2018, this is the 12th tallest statue within the international and the tallest statue of Guanyin inside the global. The statue took six years to build and become enshrined on April 24, 2005, with the participation of 108 eminent clergymen from diverse Buddhist agencies in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland China, and tens of hundreds of pilgrims. The delegation also blanketed clergymen from the Theravada and Vajrayana traditions.
