Museum of Natural Sciences

On September fifth, 1955 the museum was opened as a "Transitory show of materials having a place with a future Natural History Museum", in spite of the fact that the accumulations were not finished and the outline conspire was not wrapped up. The "Topography" segment of the Regional Natural History Museum in Plovdiv has been in presence since the foundation of the exhibition hall in 1955. The foundation of this segment and also the entire historical center depended on the materials of the rich comprehensive exhibition hall at the previous French school in the town of Plovdiv.

As the years progressed, the article and the general load of the "Topography" area have been recharged with new paleontological, mineralogical, and petrographic examples from Bulgaria and abroad. In mid 1991, after the general reproduction of the "Topography" Hall, the composition was organized under another topical arrangement and current outline. Three sub-areas – Paleontology, Mineralogy, and Petrography, are introduced in a territory of 100 m2. The piece starts from the gallery lobby, where three vitrines indicate fossils of neogene warm blooded animals – model of a Deinotherium, including molars and tusks, and additionally thigh bones.

The "Fossil science" sub-area is orchestrated in 12 vitrines demonstrating fossils of plants and creatures that possessed the Earth in past topographical periods: remains and prints of Sigillaria and other wiped out plant species, Trilobites, Brachiopods, Graptolites, Sea lilies and Sea urchins, Belemnites, Ammonites, mollusks, snails, molars and vertebrae of neogene warm blooded creatures, mammoths, ponies, bovids, horns, roes, and so on.
