Sao Jose do Egito

Sao Jose do Egito is a Brazilian municipality positioned in the country of Pernambuco. Located within the Meso-area of Sertao Pernambucano and in the Microregion of Pajeu. Administratively, the municipality consists of the districts Sede, Bonfim, Riacho do Meio and the villages of Batatas, Curralinho, Mundo Novo, Sao Sebastiao de Aguiar, Espirito Santo and Juazerinho. Its population, in keeping with IBGE estimates for 2018, became 33 789 inhabitants, being the 3rd maximum populous municipality inside the Pajeu Microregion, in the back of best Serra Talhada and Afogados da Ingazeira. The township began with the development of a chapel committed to Saint Joseph with the aid of farmers at the pinnacle of the Pajeu River, in Queimadas, a southern valley of the Serra da Borborema and a factor of confluence between Sao Filipe Creek and Pajeu.

Neighboring farmers, who owned a chapel committed to St. Peter, attacked and destroyed the temple. A new chapel become erected. A new assault was attempted, this time unsuccessful, as there has been resistance. The city turned into named Sao Jose das Queimadas in 1865. In 1872, the district become created with denomination of Sao Jose da Ingazeira, that became elevated to the category of metropolis with the denomination of San Jose of the Ingazeira, by way of the provincial regulation of May 26, 1877, dismembered of Ingazeira later Afogados of the Ingazeira. By provincial Law No. 1516, of 11 of April of 1881, the village changed into renamed to St. Joseph of Egypt.
