About Le Roeulx
Roeulx is a French-speakme town of Belgium located in Wallonia, inside the province of Hainaut. In 655, an Irish monk via the call of Faelan was murdered by brigands. It can be the issue of an important cult in the course of the subsequent centuries. His reminiscence can be permanently ensured by using the construction, in 1125, of the Premonstratensian abbey of Saint-Feuillien. It is around this abbey with a purpose to expand the region after which the village of Rœulx.
Initially, the village of Roeulx belonged to Wauthier, lord of Ath: he had married Ada de Montdidier, called Roucy, however the couple had best one daughter Beatrix, born around 1091. Baudouin II de Hainaut, rely of Hainaut made him marry his son Arnould. This is why all descendants can be referred to as Hainaut Roeulx. Their son Eustache I, known as the Old Man 1115 to 1192, will be councilor and comrade-in-hands of Count de Hainaut, peer of the county. He participated in all military campaigns: accordingly, in 1172, he may be a part of the effective excursion towards Henry III, Duke of Limburg.
