Groot Begijnhof

The Groot Begijnhof of Leuven is a well preserved beguinage and completely restored historical quarter containing a dozen streets in the south of downtown Leuven. Around 3 hectares 7.5 sections of land in estimate, with approximately 300 condos in right around 100 houses, it is one of the biggest outstanding beguinages in the Low Countries. It extends on the two sides of the stream Dijle, which parts into two trenches inside the beguinage, in this manner shaping an island. Three scaffolds interface the parts of the beguinage. The total beguinage is possessed by the University of Leuven and utilized as a grounds, particularly to house scholastics.

It is a progression of bouleds, squares, gardens and stops, with many houses and communities in customary block and sandstone style. As a network for unmarried, semi-religious ladies see Beguine, this beguinage started in the mid thirteenth century. The most established composed records go again from 1232. A Latin engraving on the congregation notices 1234 as establishing date. The people group is probably a couple of decades more seasoned.
