Sun Moon Lake

One look at the mirror like water of Sun Moon Lake and you will know that nature was really happy while creating this wonderful marvel. Sun Moon Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in Taiwan. The name too comes from the landscape it is surrounded by. The west side looks like moon and the eastern side like sun, which brought it this name. Covering an area of nearly 8 km2, the lake was recognized as one amongst the thirteen National scenic areas in Taiwan. It is not allowed to swim in the lake, but there is a 3 km race named Swimming Carnival of Sun Moon Lake organized here sometime around the Mid-Autumn Festival. There are thousands of participants who swim across the lake. So if you wish to take a swim in the lake, which you will after watching the water in the lake, visit during the carnival and enjoy swimming.
