West River

It courses through the towns of Bethany, Woodbridge, and New Haven before releasing into New Haven Harbor. The West River is a 13.5-mile-long 21.7 km freshwater stream in southern Connecticut. There is an open kayak dispatch, kept up by the City of New Haven Department of Parks, Recreation, and Trees, in the developed channel at Derby Avenue.

Inside the city of New Haven, the stream is encompassed by Edgewood Park and the West River Memorial Park along a lot of its length. While the stream's common channel twists along the western edge of the West River Memorial Park, a straight channel a previous paddling course slices through its center and ends at the recreation center's northern edge Derby Avenue.
