Kampong

Recorded on the National Register of Historic Places, The Kampong was the noteworthy home and individual garden of well known plant wayfarer Dr. David Fairchild, and later, giver and preservationist Catherine Sweeney. The waterfront domain includes a Mission/Spanish Revival style house outlined by Edward Clarence Dean and Fairchild's unique office, now changed over into a gallery. The garden is prestigious for its indispensable accumulations of uncommon and surprising assortments of tropical and subtropical organic products, palms, and blossoming trees, bushes and vines; numerous planted by Fairchild's own particular hands.
