About Cathedral Square Park

It is a little urban Milwaukee County Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, situated toward the west of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. The recreation center just takes the name of the close-by house of prayer, with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee holding no responsibility for site. Initially known as Courthouse Square, the land was given by city fellow benefactor Solomon Juneau in 1836, and housed a court house and correctional facility. The principal courthouse was worked by Solomon Juneau and Morgan L. Martin. A swarm of 5,000 individuals united at the correctional facility in 1854 to protect Joshua Glover, a runaway slave caught and detained by government marshals. Amid the American Civil War, parkland south of the courthouse was utilized as place to collect for troops leaving for or coming back from the front.
