About Birchmore Trail

It is a mile-long pathway through a urban hardwood backwoods which twists through gorges, close by a brook, ignoring spans and by the Great Wall of Athens. The Great Wall of Athens was worked by Fred Birchmore, and the neighborhood man for whom the trail is named.

Mr. Birchmore is a nearby legend: a school teacher, group pioneer, ornithologist, and pilot who cycled far and wide and finished his 200-foot long divider while in his 70s. The Birchmore trail is available to pedestrian activity just; bikes are not allowed on the trail. The trailhead is in Memorial Park in Athens.
