About Lanercost Priory

Lanercost Convent or priory was established by Robert de Vaux in the vicinity of 1165 and 1174, the in all probability date being 1169, to house Augustinian Groups.

It is arranged at the town of Lanercost, Cumbria, Britain, inside sight of Naworth Château, with which it long had close associations. It is presently open to the general population and in the guardianship of English Legacy.

The closeness to Scotland unavoidably affected the fortunes of the cloister, and it was an objective of Scots assaults in striking back to English attacks. This wound up plainly intense after the episode of the War of Autonomy. In 1296 the Scottish armed force settled at Lanercost subsequent to consuming Hexham convent and Lambley religious shelter.

The Scots were hindered before the harm could wind up plainly incredible, and they withdrew through Nicolforest, having consumed a few places of the religious community yet not the congregation. Comparable plunders under Wallace proceeded with the following year and prompted calls for responses from the English.
