About Derby War Memorial

The Derby War Dedication was composed by Charles Clayton Thompson and stands before the Derby Guildhall.

It includes a bronze figure of the Virgin Mary holding the child Jesus in her arms by the stone worker George Arthur Walker.

It was finished in 1924 and disclosed on 11 November 1924. Behind this bronze figure is a substantial Celtic cross.

The remembrance was raised to recognize the fallen of The Incomparable War with the engraving "The Incomparable War/1914-1918. A later engraving, "For Confidence/And Home/And Honorableness/World War 1939– 1945, was added to perceive those men of Derby who kicked the bucket in the Second World War.
