Background for Thomas Mann’s novel “The Magic Mountain” Schatzalp was built in 1900 as luxury sanatorium to provide cure for tuberculosis patients. Schatzalp sanatorium was built on a high plateau above Davos thought that a sunny location and good alpine air and cleanliness were the keys.
