The project focuses of bringing the 12 year old female beluga whales named Little White and Little Grey from the captivity in China to open water refuge in Iceland’s westman Islands. The estimated time for the project is six years which would include the conservationists and environmentalists making the best possible plan for the safest transportation of the whales from Changfeng Ocean World in Shanghai to their new home. 1. What is the initiative
This is the first ever marine project in which two whales will be relocated from their current home to their new home which would the the whale sanctuary in Iceland. This is considered a whales wellbeing and healthcare project.
2. How to transport the whales?
The Little White and the Little Grey will be transported via land, sea and air via Cargolux transport on a specially designed Boeing 747-400 ERF fighter to their new home whale sanctuary in Iceland. The whales will be taken care of throughout the travel and every possible need would be taken care of until they land safely in Iceland.
3. Preserving the Whales: An Initiative
Sea Life Trust is working in partnership with the Whale and Dolphin to rehabilitate and provide the better conditions to the captivated cetaceans. As per the plan the island sanctuary will be created at the Klettsvik Bay where the Little White and the Little Grey will be able to enjoy a fuller and more comfortable living.
4. Puffin Hospital
The beluga whale sanctuary also includes the puffin hospital where the little chicks will be monitored and taken care of. It also includes a teaching and education center where the visitors will be allowed to go on a small trip in the islands and watch whales and learn about them without disturbing them. This is the great initiative to protect the flora and fauna of our world and preserve the natural beauty rather than harming them.
