Delay in the schedule departure of flights has become very common today and needless to say the passengers land in trouble instead of landing in their desired destination as the inevitable consequence. And this delay results in different kinds of losses based on the varied purposes of the flight of passenger.
1. The Recently Passed Landmark Rule
But the good news is that the situation has improved as compared to that of the earlier after the benchmark rule by European Court of Justice in 2012. The rule certifies that the passengers are eligible to get adequate compensation to make up for their waste of time and money which they face in case of long delays. However there are many terms and conditions depending on different factors related to the eligibility of the compensation.
2. The Bewildering Number of Claimants
Since the Landmark rule has passed, many people have made an effort to get their due compensation and the number of the claimants has gone up to around 260,000. It cannot be said that everyone will get their compensation because the airlines are also fighting back for the very obvious reason showing the grounds of unavoidable technical failures or unpredictable weather conditions, political unrest etc. But, before filing the claim for the compensation one must very wisely understand the entire situation and the possible consequences related to it.
3. Fare Hike, the other side of the coin
The fact that the numbers of claimants are rising is sure to have a negative consequence as well. However the claim is totally valid and legal after the passing of the law, but the airline companies will have no alternative than to hike their fair if they have to pay the compensation amount to each and every suffering passenger. It is also a fact that airlines are going through tough times as of now. And to pay such a huge amount in the midst of this critical time is next to impossible for them, no matter how appropriate the claim is.
4. So the Loss is Yours from either side
Under this situation, passengers suffer from both ends. If they do not get the compensation it is evidently their loss. And even if they do get, they will have to pay for it later as fare hike. So it is on them as to which way they prefer to lose. One can however calculate which one proves to be the bigger and the ultimate loss for them.
