About Sagunto
Sagunto is a town in Eastern Spain, in the modern-day fertile comarca of Camp de Morvedre within the province of Valencia. It is located 30 km north of Valencia, near the Costa del Azahar on the Mediterranean Sea. It is high-quality recognized for the remains of the ancient Iberian and Roman city of Saguntum, which performed a sizeable element in the Second Punic War between the Carthaginians and the Romans.
During the fifth century BC, the Iberians built a walled settlement at the hill overseeing the apparent; a stretch of cyclopean limestone slabs from the former temple of Diana survives, near the modern-day church of Santa Maria, but the agreement website remains older.
The city traded with coastal colonies in the western Mediterranean including Carthage and, underneath their influence, minted its very own cash. During this era, the metropolis was called Arse. By 219 BC, Saguntum was a massive and commercially wealthy city, which sided with the local colonists and Rome in opposition to Carthage, and drew Hannibal's first attack, his siege of Saguntum, which caused the Second Punic War, one of the most important wars of antiquity.
