About Aqueduto dos Pegoes

The Pegoes Aqueduct , was worked with the motivation behind providing the Convent of Christ in Tomar , and is around 6 km long. Its development started in 1593 , in the rule of Philip I of Portugal , under the course of Philippe Terzio , engineer of the kingdom and was finished in 1614 by Pedro Fernando de Torres. The water channel has 58 full-back curves, at its most noteworthy point, on 16 ogival curves laying on columns. Its most extreme tallness is 30 meters. At the closures it presents vaulted houses, which have in the inside, a vast sink for the tapping of the water. It has been ordered by IGESPAR as a National Monument since 1910.
