Noorder-Koggenland pronunciation is a former municipality within the West-Friesland location inside the Dutch province of Noord-Holland. On 1 August 2006, the municipality had 10,582 inhabitants source: CBS and had an area of fifty one km². The municipality turned into created on January 1, 1979 with the aid of merging the municipalities of Abbekerk, Midwoud, Opperdoes, Sijbekarspel and Twisk and the village of Hauwert until then belonging to the municipality of Nibbixwoud. On January 1, 2007 , the municipality merged with the municipalities of Medemblik and Wognum within the new municipality of Medemblik . The municipality name refers back to the ancient northern Koggen from the Middle Ages, in this example the Vier Noorder Koggen , historically referred to as the Houtwouderambacht or Hoogwouderambacht.
