About Fonte Gaia

The Fonte Gaia is a fantastic wellspring situated in the Piazza del Campo in the focal point of Siena, Italy. The principal wellspring in the Piazza del Campo was finished in 1342 after pressure driven development had driven water to the site. Underground pipes conveyed water to the site from 25 kilometers away. Legend holds that the wellspring was met with much happiness, in this way it was given the name Gaia or glad. Others recommend the term Gaia alludes to the Latin expression for "lady", and that the wellspring was devoted to the lady of the hour of God and supporter of Siena, the Virgin Mary.

The wellsprings, plates, and statues conflate Roman ladies' cardinal ideals, with a focal portrayal of Mary, inquisitively encircled by stories of Genesis. In 1419, the wellspring had the present beautiful edge developed by Jacopo della Quercia. In 1858, the first marble boards were supplanted by duplicates etched by Tito Sarrocchi, under the supervision of engineer Giuseppe Partini. The side reliefs delineate scenes from Genesis: The Creation of Adam and The Flight from the Garden of Eden. The wolves gushing water, speaking to the mother-wolf of Remus and Romulus, shape some portion of the remade wellspring.

Two naked female figures once embellished the front two sections, customarily accepted to speak to Rea Silvia and Acca Larentia, in festivity of Siena's assumed connects to old Rome. These were not included the reproduction but rather can be seen alongside the first boards at an exhibition hall at Santa Maria della Scala, the old clinic disregarding the Piazza del Duomo. The long area of the wellspring is embellished at the middle with a Madonna and Child, encompassed by moral stories of the Virtues.
