Sonmarg

Sonamarg which is also known as the “meadow of gold” is situated in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir is no less than heaven on earth. Some of the important peaks are located here such as the Amarnath peak which is a pilgrimage destination, Kalhoi peak, and Sirbal peak. Sonamarg is 85 kilometers away from Srinagar and the drive is extremely mesmerizing as the moving landscape is full of high mountains and full of snow. The trails of pine trees and the green valley are like no other. To see the actual beauty of the place one must visit Sonamarg in the spring season to see the entire valley become a carpet of flowers. 
This place is also a destination for trekkers as it lies just next to Zoji la, from where one can reach high altitude trekking points. Adventure seekers mostly go to Pahalgam and Thajiwas glacier from here. From Sonamarg one can also go to the holy shrine of Lord Shiva in Amarnath. Apart from this, you can also indulge yourself in skiing and rafting, etc. the best time to visit Sonamarg is from May to June during summers and November to April during winters only if you can handle the cold temperature there.
