Formerly known as the Victoria Terminus, Chhatrapati Shivaji Station was built in the year 1888. This beautiful monument was designed by F.W.Stevens. Due to this very monument became the symbol of Mumbai. Coming to the design, CST is the perfect blend of both the Indian as well as the British design. This was the first place wherein the railway services were started in Mumbai. The first expedition of railway covered a total distance of 34 km and the destination was Thane.
Prior to the new name, this structure was given the name Victoria Terminus who was the reigning queen at that time. This marvelous structure took almost 10 years to complete and it is said that this structure was inaugurated on the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in the year of 1887. This was said to be the costliest project in Mumbai which required nearly 260000 sterling pounds for its construction. This beautiful monument is one of the most famous places in Mumbai.
