About cellular jail

This jail is the capital of Andaman which is Port Blair. This jail dates back to the time of the colonial era. The construction started in the year 1896 and got finished by 1906. This is a popular jail as the independence leaders were kept here during the movement for independence in India.

There is some dark history related with the jail. The prisoners were tortured here and were kept away from the outside world. Now it has become a tourist place and one can enjoy the sound and visual show to know about the jail and what happened during those times with the prisoners.

This jail due to its historical background now has become a memorial site for the freedom lovers and has been d to be a National Memorial site. The entrance of it has the pictures of freedom fighters and also has exhibition area. The first floor has the Netaji gallery, Art gallery and a Library having books of the freedom movement.
