About Fort William

Fort William is a citadel in Anomabu, Central Region, Ghana, originally called Anomabo Fort and renamed Fort William inside the nineteenth century by means of its then-commander, Brodie Cruickshank, who delivered one storey to the principle building within the days of King William IV. It became constructed in 1753 via the British once they thwarted a French attempt to set up a fort on the identical vicinity.

Two in advance forts were established on the equal site, one in 1640 through the Dutch, another in 1674 by the English. Fort Charles became deserted in the late-17th century. In 1640, the Dutch constructed the primary easy fortress within the form of stone nog and brick resort underneath the path of Commander, Arent Jacobsz van der Graeff. In 1653, the Swedes captured the inn. In 1657, Danish forces took the hotel below Caerloff. In 1659 or 1660, the Dutch recaptured it. When the second one Dutch-Anglo conflict resulted in 1667 with the, the British received a foothold in Anomabo. In 1672 or 1673, the British started out building Fort Charles naming it after King Charles II of England on the existing-day area of Fort William.
