About Tettnang New Palace

Tettnang Castle, also known as the Tettnang New Palace, is one of 3 castles in the German city of Tettnang. The other ones are Tettnang Old Palace and Torschloss close to Barenplatz. Tettnang Castle is owned via Staatliche Schlosser und Garten Baden-Wurttemberg. Originally, a citadel stood on the site of the current fort. From 1260 until 1780, the site become the house of the Counts of Montfort. The old fort changed into destroyed in 1633, all through the 30 Years' War. Count Anton III of Montfort sooner or later started rebuilding the fortress in 1712, hiring the architect Christoph Gessinger, a Benedictine friar from Isny, to draft designs for a new castle. His aim became to rip down the stays of the mediaeval citadel to make way for a completely new palace.

In 1728, creation paintings got here to a grinding halt when the funds of the Count ran dry. Count Anton III died in 1733, and the fort remained unfinished. A principal section of the facade, along with components of the interior decoration, have been damaged by means of hearth in 1753. Under the partronage of Count Franz Xaver, healing paintings changed into ultimately completed in 1770. The best sculptures and paintwork within the fort had been performed by using Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer, Kate Schaller-Harlin and Andreas Brugger. Jakob Emele become responsible for the rococo work.
