About Helfenstein Castle

Helfenstein Castle represents the remnants of the fortified fort Helfenstein of the counts of Helfenstein placed above the metropolis of Geislingen an der Steige, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. The fortress became constructed, by using Eberhard von Helfenstein, at the turn of the 12th century and become regularly enlarged at some stage in the period from 1100 to 1380. The site of the castle, over the primary Imperial avenue through the Fils valley, allowed the Helfensteins to take a look at and control change inside the vicinity.

The close connection among the Helfensteins and the Hohenstaufen Emperors during the 12th and 13th centuries allowed the own family to develop and increase. During the height of their electricity the Helfenstein own family dominated Heidenheim, Blaubeuren, Wiesensteig and Sigmaringen. However, because the Hohenstaufen circle of relatives misplaced power so did the Helfensteins. By 1382 the citadel became used as collateral for a loan from the town of Ulm. Then in 1396 the castle became completely under the manage of the loose and imperial metropolis of Ulm.
