Parque Metropolitano La Sabana

Parque Metropolitano La Sabana or called a Sabana Metropolitan Park is the largest and most important park in San José, a must-see visit. It is located in the city center and is officially called Parque Metropolitano La Sabana Padre Antonio Chapui.

It was named after him due to the enormous contribution that this Father made to the neighbors of San José by donating the land in 1783. The airport of San José previously occupied this land from 1940 to the beginning of the seventies.

Once the site of San José’s main airport, this 72-hectare green space at the west end of Paseo Colón is home to a museum, a lagoon, and ious sporting facilities – most notably Costa Rica's National Stadium. During the day, the park's paths make a relaxing place for a stroll, a jog or a picnic.
