About Tilbury
Tilbury is a community within the municipality of Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada. It is located 26.5 kilometres southwest of Chatham and 57.3 kilometres east of Windsor on Highway 401. The close-by townships of Tilbury West in Essex County and Tilbury East in Kent County were named for the port of Tilbury in the English province of Essex. A settlement, called Henderson after the neighborhood postmaster, was set up with the development of the Canada Southern Railway in 1875.
The name of the mail station was changed to Tilbury Center after the abutting townships and the network was fused as a town in 1887. The name changed again to Tilbury a couple of years after the fact and joining as a town followed in 1910. Tilbury is additionally home to the biggest antique shopping center in Southern Ontario. Tilbury is likewise celebrated for its wall paintings which delineates some portion of its history.
In 1998, the town was amalgamated with the City of Chatham and all regions of Kent County to frame the region of Chatham-Kent. The previous town corridor at 17 Superior Street is currently Tilbury Municipal Center and Chatham-Kent Police station. Tilbury has two facilities. One is the Tilbury District Family Health unit, beside Shoppers Drug Mart and another is the stroll in center.
