About Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Parana. Together, they make up the largest waterfall gadget within the world. The falls divide the river into the higher and lower Iguazu. The Iguazu River rises near the heart of the city of Curitiba. For most of its direction, the river flows thru Brazil; but, most of the falls are on the Argentine facet. Below its confluence with the San Antonio River, the Iguazu River bureaucracy the boundary between Argentina and Brazil.

The area surrounding Iguazu Falls was inhabited 10,000 years ago by means of the hunter-gatherers. The falls can be reached from two most important cities, with one on either facet of the falls: Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil and Puerto Iguazu in Argentina, the first European to find out the Falls became the Spanish Conquistador Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541, after whom one of the falls at the Argentine side is named. Jesuit missions observed in 1609.

A Brazilian navy officer, Edmundo de Barros, proposed the introduction of a country wide park close to the Falls in 1897. As the falls form part of the border between Brazil and Argentina, as soon as the ones boundaries have been truely defined, two separate country wide parks were set up, two global airports are close to Iguazu Falls: the Argentine Cataratas del Iguazu International Airport IGR and the Brazilian Foz do Iguacu International Airport IGU. Bus and taxi offerings are available from and to the Airport-Falls.
