About Salzburg Museum

Housed in the Neuen Residenz, the Salzburg Museum is the gallery of aesthetic and social history for the city and area of Salzburg, Austria. It started as the Provincial Museum and was likewise beforehand known as the Museum Carolino-Augusteum. The Salzburg Museum was established in 1834 when a little gathering of military memorabilia was made open to the general population to formalize the recollections of the Napoleonic wars. After the Revolution of 1848, the gathering turned into the official town exhibition hall of Salzburg.

In 1923, the regular history objects of the gallery were given to the Haus der Natur Salzburg. A multi-year later, the society culture gathering opened a side-branch in the Monatsschlossl in the parks of Hellbrunn Palace. Amid World War II, the gallery got three direct hits from bombs. The vast majority of the gathering had just been moved to mines that filled in as a shelter in any case, the building was totally wrecked alongside numerous articles too huge to move. A few items vanished from their dugouts amid the US occupation, including an accumulation of gold coins that had been kept in the salt mines of Hallein. Another building was opened as a provisory gallery in 1967.
