Stonehenge is one of the most famous pre-historic sites in the the entire world. Situated 13 km north of Salisbury, the time of its origin is still not clear. According to excavations the area became a burial ground around 3000 BC and remained so for next 500 years when the giant stones were put up. However some say that the stones have been there as early as 3000 BC. Even after detailed study it is still not clear who built this and for what purpose. The only thing that is clear is that it is one of the biggest and the oldest tourist attraction in Europe.
