The largest building in the complex rises to a height of 47 m and its pointed tip resembles many famous Hindu Temples around the world. The beginning of this temple is not clear. This UNESCO recognized world heritage site was built around 850 CE by Rakai Pikatan or Balitung Maha Sambu. The temple was soon left abandoned and started disintegrating. Its reconstruction began in the year 1918 and continued till 1953. The main shrine of the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Interested ?Plan your Trip Now ! |
