Overlook Mountain

Becoming the overwhelming focus in the brilliant Overlook Mountain Wild Forest area of Catskill Park, Overlook Mountain is the southernmost pinnacle of the Catskill Mountains and the site of one of the five outstanding Catskill Mountain fire towers and the Overlook Mountain House lodging. Planned by Lewis B. Wagonen in 1871, the inn picked up distinction for being worked at a higher height than any of the close-by inns. It later burned to the ground, and the vestiges can be gone to from one of the fundamental climbing trails in the recreation center.

The Catskill Mountain fire towers were developed to avert and control backwoods fires in the locale in the vicinity of 1908 and 1950. The twenty-three towers fell into neglect two decades later, however five of the towers have been reestablished and revived for open perception. Guests can investigate the locale on a 9-mile climbing trail that breezes around the mountain from Fire Town to Echo Lake and incorporates the Ledges.
