About Citrus State Historic Park
California Citrus State Historic Park recounts the narrative of the citrus business' quick improvement in Southern California. The citrus economy started in 1873 when the U.S. Bureau of Agriculture sent two little navel orange trees to Eliza Tibbets, a Riverside neighborhood. The trees flourished because of Southern California's mild atmosphere and sound soil.
When local people tasted the sweet organic product developed in Eliza Tibbets' yard, forests of oranges, lemons, and grapefruits started flying up everywhere throughout the state. At the California Citrus State Historic Park, guests can join a free guided visit that incorporates tests of newly developed California oranges.
