About Moreton in Marsh
Moreton-in-Marsh is one of the essential market cities within the northern Cotswolds situated on the Fosse Way and now served via the main line railway from London Paddington. It grew up in the 13th century as a market town with a huge essential street, slender burgage plots and again lanes. There nonetheless is a busy Tuesday marketplace with about 200 stalls attracting many traffic. Moreton-in-Marsh is a city civil parish in northeastern Gloucestershire, England. The town is located at the crossroads of the Fosse Way Roman street now the A429 and the A44.
It is served via Moreton-in-Marsh railway station on the Cotswold Line. The parish and environs are notably flat and low-lying as compared with the encompassing Cotswold Hills. The River Evenlode rises near Batsford, runs round the threshold of Moreton and meanders in the direction of Oxford, where it flows into the Thames simply east of Eynsham. Just over 2.4 km east of Moreton, the Four shire stone marked the boundary of the ancient counties of Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire, till the re-corporation of the county limitations in 1931. Since then it marks the meeting region of Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and Oxfordshire.
