Dr Thomas Issac - the Finance Minister of Kerala has proposed development of air strips at Wayanad, Idukki and Bekal specially meant for seamless travel to far flung destinations in the annual budget presented recently. The budget section for new air strips development presented an approx investment of INR 400 cr with private participation to develop basic infrastructure in 20 select tourist destinations in the State. While the 2016-17 budget allocation for Tourism department is pegged at INR 311 cr, the Finance Minister of Kerala expects the sector to benefit from projects over INR 750 cr.
The Finance Minister also proposed heritage tourism projects in Alleppey and Thalassery in the same line of the Muziris project and set an allocation of INR 100 cr each for these projects. Furthermore, a ropeway project was announced at Ponmudi in the annual budget with an approx investment of INR 200 cr. Well, it seems like 2017 is going to be a happy year for Kerala tourism department.
