Harenkarspel

Harenkarspel is a former municipality within the West Friesland region within the Dutch province of North Holland and has for the reason that January 1, 2013 merged with Schagen and Zijpe within the new municipality Schagen. The municipality had sixteen,192 inhabitants and had a place of ​​54.84 km². On January 1, 1990, the municipality became enlarged via adding the then discontinued municipalities of Sint Maarten and Warmenhuizen to Harenkarspel. The capital of the municipality turned into Tuitjenhorn.

Harenkarspel become also an area call till the 20 th century. Around 1295 a mound turned into erected east of Tuitjenhorn. The land on which the terp stood become within the fingers of the Counts of Holland, however donated to the Egmond abbey. He gave it to the Lords of Egmond on mortgage. They stated that the place become loose to live in. That became referred to as a hering. A catholic church was also built, making it a breeze. Partly because of this the area became named Heringcarspel. The later Reformed Church changed into demolished in 1923. The name of the municipality is derived from the vintage call Heringcarspel, later Herenkarspel.
