About Bock Casemates

Having a place with the UNESCO World Heritage, the primary underground passages were worked in 1644, at the time of the Spanish control. The 23-kilometer long displays were amplified just 40 years after the fact by Vauban, the French military architect and post manufacturer, and in the eighteenth century by the Austrians. The underground protective sections were set on ious levels and came to down the extent that 40 meters.

It is these great guard works that presented Luxembourg the name of "Gibraltar of the North". After the destroying of the stronghold in 1867, 17 kilometers of the casemates were saved, left in great condition. Since 1933 the Bock and Pétrusse casemates have been available to the general population.

The stronghold defenses and the generally noteworthy Old Town appreciate worldwide notoriety: in 1994 UNESCO recorded them as World Heritage.
